Are you interested in becoming a UK Scent Sport Instructor?

Join our next group of instructors and gain the knowledge and practical skills to teach UK Scent Sports Workshops, Classes, and hold Assessments.

Our comprehensive 3-day course combines theory and practical training, covering essential topics such as understanding scent movement, the anatomy and physiology of dogs working with scent, preferred methods for teaching odour obedience, and more. You'll receive detailed class plans, assessment plans, certificate templates, and a printed PDF booklet with all the course information as a qualified instructor.

During the course, dogs will need to spend some time in vehicles, so please ensure you have a suitable space. Previous scent work experience is not required for your dog, and our training methods will not interfere with their existing knowledge. To prepare for the course, feed your dog something really yummy out of a red KONG (must be red) at least twice a day for one week before attending. More details will be provided upon arrival.

Our instructor courses focus on your development as an instructor, rather than solely on your dog's performance. You will be assessed on your knowledge and ability to instruct handlers effectively. Minimum requirements for attending our courses include qualifications with organizations such as ICAN, APDT, IMDT, WSDA Instructor, Scentwork UK, UKCSD, and experience in teaching Scent Detection and/or Mantrailing.

We understand that there are talented dog trainers without formal qualifications, and we offer two routes to becoming one of our instructors. If you don't have formal qualifications from the list above, please email info@ukscentsport.co.uk to request more information about training.

Before completing the course, you will need to sign a contract agreeing to our Instructor Terms and Conditions. After passing the course, a monthly license fee of £10 will be charged, granting you access to course content for classes, workshops, and assessments, as well as the use of our logo and inclusion in our instructor’s directory on our website. Please note that running assessments and using our class plans is only permitted if you pay the UK Scent Sport license fee. If you choose to cancel after a minimum of 12 months, all association with UK Scent Sport and the teaching of our copyright content must cease immediately. Full terms and conditions can be found within your instructor contract.

Upon successful completion of the course...
